My mum is my everything and because her birthday was just around the corner, I decided to surprise her with something special and planned this short getaway to Portugal. She is such a busy person, I knew she’d love to have some time off to just put her feet up, relax and forget about everything.
I usually plan my trips by myself, but this time I wanted it to be a stress-free holiday so I bought a full package (return flights to Faro from Birmingham, transfers from Faro to Quarteira and B&B hotel) at www.onthebeach.com and paid around £380 for our 4 days getaway.
I always choose off-peak seasons, not only because it’s quiet but more affordable too. 90% of the bars, restaurants, bike&car rentals and travel agencies are open throughout the year anyway so you won’t miss on anything!
Hotel
We’ve stayed at the Dom Jose Beach Hotel. It’s a 3-star hotel but feels more like 5-star with its fabulous aesthetic. Moreover, it’s based on the beach (I always look out for the hotels on the beach so I can wake up to an amazing view from the balcony in the morning 🙂
I have also decided to treat myself and mum to a relaxing massage at the hotel’s SPA and it was truly amazing experience.
The staff was very friendly and helpful, breakfast was delightful. Overall – we had magnificent stay, so I can honestly recommend this hotel.
About Quarteira
Quarteira is a coastal Portuguese town in the Algarve region. It’s obviously quite busy in summer – just like Spain or Greece. It’s a low-crime, safe area with loads of families with kids hence it’s suitable for those, who enjoy quiet, peaceful holidays away from wild nightlife.
You’ll find live music in the local restaurants & bars. We’ve discovered the most amazing restaurant called BJ`S Oceanside. Absolutely lovely food, great service, music and the view…They also have a wide choice of local fish which is a must-try in Quarteira.
Quarteira is famous for its golden beaches, its high-quality fish and for its woods of stone pine. It’s surrounded by white villas and hotels – Quarteira’s architecture is truly fabulous.
You won’t be far from Algrave’s capital (Faro) so you can go on a 1 day trip to explore the city or – if you prefer shopping and hunting for local goodies – there’s a Gypsy Market every Wednesday.
